It is simple to replace the hard disc in a Synology NAS. The
actions you can do are as follows:
1.Identify
the Failed Drive:
Ø
Log into DiskStation Manager (DSM).
Ø
Open the “Storage Manager” app.
Ø
Check the status of your drives under “HDD/SSD”.
The failed drive will show a red status like “Crashed” or “Failed”.
2.Prepare
for Replacement:
Ø
Ensure you have a compatible replacement drive.
It’s recommended to use drives from Synology’s compatibility list1.
Ø
If your NAS supports hot-swapping, you can
replace the drive without shutting down the system. Otherwise, power off the
NAS.
3.Replace
the Drive:
Ø
Remove the failed drive from the NAS enclosure.
Ø
Insert the new drive into the same slot.
4.Repair
the Storage Pool:
Ø
Go back to “Storage Manager” in DSM.
Ø
Select the storage pool that includes the
replaced drive.
Ø
Click on the three-dot icon and choose “Replace
Drive”.
Ø
Follow the prompts to add the new drive to the
storage pool and start the repair process.
5.Monitor
the Repair Process:
Ø
The repair process may take some time, depending
on the size of the drive and the amount of data.
Ø
Once the repair is complete, check the status of
the storage pool to ensure everything is functioning correctly.
